This September, Avintia begins the construction on the first of the homes in Valdebebas. This is the largest urban development project in the recent history of the Madrid region arising out of the redevelopment of the capital’s northern district, the surface area of which covers more than 10.6 million square metres. It is a unique, complete area which will combine extensive green spaces and economic, administrative, residential and leisure activity and facilities in a high-quality, modern urban design environment, with infrastructure that ensures the best accessibility. An environmental and socially sustainable urban model has been sought, where street activity will thrive. This model will include different activities that coexist historically in urban centres in our Mediterranean environment, complementing each other. In short, a dynamic city has been designed and developed for everyone. With the predominance of pedestrian and meeting areas, which link that variety of uses, new social spaces for all times of the day are generated in the city. To make this possible, the streets in Valdebebas a city are designed to be walked on foot, ridden on a bicycle or public transport, a city with meeting and relaxation areas for its inhabitants. To strengthen that activity, mixed use development has been planned, in which in addition to the approximately 12,500 high-rise dwellings, of which 45% will be some form of social housing, there will be more than 1.2 million square metres for services (offices, hotels), local trade, facilities, shopping centre, etc.
